Tell Us Why Students Should Save the World!!
Last week, ASUO President Sam Dotters Katz said,
“The incidental fee should not be used to save the world.” Soon
afterward, the ASUO Athletics and Contracts Finance Committee voted to defund
OSPIRG.
Our nation is facing serious challenges and has some
ambitious goals to reach: economic stability, energy independence, affordable
and accessible healthcare, affordable higher education.
Last night, President Obama called on all Americans to act
to help solve these problems.
How ironic - at the same time that the President of the
United States calls on our generation to step up, roll up our sleeves, and
pitch in to address today’s pressing problems, the President of the ASUO
calls for students to ignore the world around us.
Universities and students have always been at the forefront
of solving social problems.
U of O should continue to play a role in addressing societal
issues, fulfilling its educational mission to teach students how to be active
and engaged citizens throughout their lives. For over 35 years OSPIRG has
worked with U of O to fulfill this mission: educating students by taking on
tough problems.
Tell Sam Dotters Katz and ASUO why students
– and our resources – should be used to” save the world.”
We will also send you some of the best responses – and outline our next
steps towards ensuring students have a real voice on issues like healthcare,
transportation and energy, and rising textbook prices.
Thanks, as always, for your support!
